Visit the mysterious Goa Gajah elephant cave
Today, enjoy a leisurely breakfast before a captivating performance of a Barong and Keris dance, which tells a story about the fight between good and evil spirits. After lunch at a local restaurant, venture to the banks of the Elephant River, where a mysterious cave — known as the elephant cave for its proximity to the river — will welcome us into its lair with relics, ancient lore, and a stone entrance that looks like a menacing face. Legend holds that the stone faces, found throughout, are meant to ward off evil spirits. The cave’s true name is Goa Gajah, which is a significant Hindu site, and it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list in 1995.

Its collection ranges from traditional to contemporary, including classical Kamasan painting on tree bark, masterpieces by Batuan artists of the 1930s and 1940s, and the only works to be seen on the island of Bali by 19th century Javanese artist Raden Saleh Syarif Bustaman.
